James H. "Jim" Meyer is a resident of Naperville, Illinois. He is happily married to his wife Bonnie, who retired from her career as an executive secretary at Argonne National Laboratory in August 2007. Jim and Bonnie have one daughter, Lisa, who resides in Bolingbrook with her husband, Matt, and their sons Jason and Nathaniel.
Jim graduated from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and History. He served four years in the United States Air Force obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, and received an Honorable Discharge in 1971. He was stationed in Omaha, NB and Korat, Thailand.

Prior to being elected to the 48th house district, Jim served for 10 years as the State Representative of the 82nd district. Jim has also served as a Trustee for ten years and as Deputy Mayor for the Village of Bolingbrook. He was previously employed as a District Agent for Prudential Insurance Company.
Currently, Jim serves as the Minority Spokesman for the House Telecommunications and Smart Growth & Regional Planning
committees. He is also a member of Executive, Consumer Protection, Environment & Energy, Health & Healthcare Disparities, and Registration & Regulation committees, as well as the Advisory Committee on Hiring Veterans and the Solid Waste Subcommittee.
Jim is a member of the Naperville, Woodridge, Lisle and Bolingbrook Chambers of Commerce, the Naperville Exchange Club, the Bolingbrook Lyons, Viet Now, Veterans of Foreign Wars -Post 5917, and the American Legion - Post 1288.
When Jim is not working for his constituents he enjoys being outdoors in his garden, or spending time with his family. Jim's grandchildren are the joy of his life. He is dedicated to insuring that his grandchildren and all children have a bright future in Illinois.
Jim plans to retire from the Illinois General Assembly at the end of his term in January 2009. “What I will miss the most are the people and the process,” he says. “I love working with members of the community and my colleagues in the General Assembly to solve a problem. I can’t imagine a better job.”
